Sitewrap documentation
Sitewrap helps you wrap an existing website with faster delivery, real-time visibility, safer publishing, privacy-aware analytics, and security controls without rebuilding your site.
Overview
Sitewrap sits in front of your existing website and gives you a modern website operations layer. You can improve speed, understand what visitors are doing, publish selected pages, run experiments, collect leads, and protect sensitive routes from one dashboard.
Quickstart
Get a site live with the dashboard wizard, then review performance and traffic from your Sitewrap dashboard.
- Add website: enter your website domain and current origin URL.
- Verify setup: follow the dashboard checks before switching traffic.
- Warm important pages: preload key URLs so first visitors get fast responses.
- Review traffic: use request logs, live users, analytics, and leads to understand behavior.
- Publish safely: deploy selected page changes when you are ready.
Register and add a website
Use this flow when you are a normal Sitewrap user adding a website you own or manage.
- Create your account. Open the Sitewrap signup page, enter your work email, and complete the login or signup flow.
- Open the account home. Click Add website and enter the bare domain, for example example.com. Do not include https:// or a path.
- Verify ownership. Sitewrap shows a TXT record. Open your DNS provider, add the TXT record exactly as shown, save it, and wait until the dashboard marks ownership as verified.
- Review website detection. Sitewrap checks your homepage and suggests a starting configuration. If WordPress is detected, you can apply the recommended WordPress settings before going live.
- Discover pages. Sitewrap reads your sitemap and lists pages. Review the detected URLs and continue when the important pages are visible.
- Point traffic to Sitewrap. In your DNS provider, update the root A record to the IP shown by Sitewrap. Remove conflicting A records for the same root domain.
- Confirm activation. Sitewrap checks DNS and activates the website automatically when the A record points to Sitewrap.
Account home and site switcher
The account home is where you manage websites, team access, account-wide settings, and billing information available to your role.
- Open the Sitewrap dashboard and click the Sitewrap logo or home icon to return to account home.
- Use Sites to open a website dashboard, continue a pending setup, add a new website, or remove a website when you no longer need it.
- Use the site switcher in the top bar to search and switch between websites you can access.
- Use Users to invite teammates, set roles, and limit which websites each teammate can access.
- Use Global settings for account-wide defaults such as bot detection patterns, assistant availability, origin health interval, Slack app credentials, and email sending settings.
- Use Billing to review usage and credits when billing is enabled for your account.
Home tab
The Home tab is the daily overview for one selected website. It summarizes availability, traffic, cache behavior, popular pages, leads, A/B tests, firewall activity, and recent operational signals.
- Select the website from the site switcher at the top of the dashboard.
- Open Home.
- Use the timeframe selector when available to review a standard period such as the last 24 hours, or enter a custom range.
- Check the top status widget first. It shows whether requests are being served by Sitewrap, your website origin, or other sources.
- Review popular pages, recent leads, recent blocks, and experiment summaries to decide what needs attention.
Request log
The Request log shows traffic reaching your website through Sitewrap. It is the best place to debug pages, check response times, inspect cache source, and understand visitor engagement.
- Open Request log for the selected website.
- Use filters to narrow by page, status code, method, source, device, user, A/B flow, bot traffic, or time range.
- Click Pause if new traffic is moving too quickly and you want to inspect the current rows.
- Click a row to open details, including page title, URL, response time, source, device, visitor context, A/B assignment, time on page, interactions, and scroll depth.
- Use the visitor badge to open the visitor profile and see related activity when available.
- Use masked user/IP details for analytics. Full IP visibility should only be used in security and diagnostic workflows where appropriate.
Live users
Live users helps you understand who is currently active on the website, what page they are viewing, and how they are engaging.
- Open Live users.
- Review connected visitors, current page, device, country, A/B flows, and latest activity time.
- Click the watch icon to open a live preview for a visitor.
- Use the live view to review cursor movement, scroll position, current page, and engagement context.
- Open visitor details from the visitor identity badge when you need the broader journey.
Live visibility depends on the website being served through Sitewrap and the visitor session being active.
Pages, editor and AI
The Pages tab lists pages known to Sitewrap and gives you tools to view, edit, create, search, deploy, and review page performance.
Find and review pages
- Open Pages.
- Use the path filter to find a known URL.
- Use Search content to search text inside cached page content.
- Use page actions to view the live page, open stats, edit page settings, deploy, or open the visual editor.
Create a page
- Click Add page.
- Enter the destination path, such as /pricing or /landing/summer.
- Choose a creation method: fetch from origin, create with AI, blank page, import HTML, or clone an existing page.
- If using AI, describe the page, choose complexity, and decide whether to continue the existing design or start from scratch with suggested colors.
- Review the result in the editor, save it, and deploy when ready.
Edit a page
- Click Edit on a page.
- Select an element in the preview.
- Use the style controls to adjust classes, spacing, colors, typography, layout, or selected element attributes.
- For images, update the source and alt text, or upload a replacement image.
- Use the AI tab when you want Sitewrap to change design or content based on your instruction.
- If the page is part of an A/B test, choose the correct flow before editing.
- Click Save, then deploy the page when you are ready to publish it.
A/B testing
A/B tests let you split visitors across variants and edit page versions per flow.
- Open A/B Tests.
- Click New experiment.
- Name the experiment clearly, for example Homepage hero CTA.
- Add variants/flows, set their traffic weights, and define which pages should have variant-specific content.
- Save as a draft while preparing pages.
- Open the relevant page in the editor, choose the flow selector, and save the version for each flow.
- Return to A/B Tests and publish when all variants are ready.
- Review assigned flows in Request log, Live users, Leads, and page stats.
For privacy-sensitive regions, configure consent behavior before using persistent variant storage.
Forms and leads
Forms are detected from your website pages. Leads are captured submissions that can be reviewed, grouped, assigned, commented on, and connected to visitor activity.
Set up forms
- Open Forms.
- Refresh after pages have been visited or preloaded.
- Expand a form row to review method, target, fields, and pages where the form appears.
- Give the form a readable name.
- Choose a lead group and map form fields to lead fields when you want submissions to appear in Leads.
- Open the form protection settings to enable bot protection for submissions.
Work leads
- Open Leads.
- Use groups to separate sales, support, demos, partnerships, or other lead types.
- Search by name, email, or field value.
- Filter by status, open a lead, review submitted values and visitor context, then add comments or update status.
- Create a manual lead with New lead when you need to add a contact yourself.
- Use bulk selection to delete selected leads when cleanup is needed.
Cache, site usage and preload
Sitewrap cache improves performance and reduces load on your existing website. Preload warms known pages so visitors are more likely to receive fast cached responses.
Review site usage
- Open Site usage.
- Review cached pages, assets, broad storage usage, memory entries, and recent source breakdown.
- Use the hit/miss summary to understand whether requests are served by Sitewrap or your origin.
Run preload
- Open Preload.
- Review the sitemap URL, total URLs, cached URLs, skipped URLs, and failed URLs.
- Use the search field to find a specific path.
- Click Reload sitemap or Run full sitemap crawl when you want Sitewrap to refresh known URLs.
- Pause or resume preload if you need to reduce traffic to your origin temporarily.
You can also configure preload from Settings -> Preload, including the sitemap URL and delay between URL fetches.
Deployments
Deployments publish cached or edited pages so changes are available to visitors.
Deploy one page
- Open Pages.
- Find the page you want to publish.
- Click the page deploy action.
- Review the deployment/version modal and start deployment.
- Use version history to preview or restore previous versions when needed.
Deploy the full site
- Open Deploy.
- Click Deploy full site.
- Confirm the action. Use Force redeploy only when you want every page regenerated even if unchanged.
- Watch the progress bar and recent deployment list.
Choose deployment target
- Open Settings -> Deployment.
- Choose Local for the default Sitewrap-hosted deployment path (available on Launch and above).
- On Enterprise, choose Amazon S3 if you want deployed files copied to your own S3 bucket and delivered through CloudFront.
- For S3 mode, enter bucket name, AWS region, optional prefix, access key ID, secret key, and CloudFront distribution ID, then test the connection.
Security and firewall
Security features help reduce unwanted traffic and protect sensitive website paths.
- Open Firewall to review blocked traffic, recent IPs, country, path, and status.
- Open firewall settings from the gear icon.
- Use the master switch to turn protections on or off.
- Enable modules such as rate limiting, repeated 404 protection, blacklist rules, and suspicious probe protection based on your website risk.
- Add trusted IPs to the allowlist when your team or partners must never be blocked.
- Add manual blocklist entries for known abusive IPs.
- Use Clear firewall stats when you want a fresh 24-hour view after a configuration change.
Use Settings -> Routes for path-level rules such as blacklist patterns, error page path, redirect fixing, and "only serve deployed pages".
Settings guide
Settings are per website. Open Settings, choose a subsection, update values, and click Save settings.
External tracking partners
Sitewrap can send analytics to Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics 4, and Mixpanel when configured for your website. Always align these settings with your consent banner and privacy policy.
Set up Google Tag Manager
- Create or open a Google Tag Manager account.
- Create a web container for your website.
- Copy the container ID, for example GTM-XXXXXXX.
- In Sitewrap, open Settings -> Tracking -> Google Tag Manager.
- Enable GTM, paste the container ID, and save settings.
- Preview your website and confirm tags fire according to your consent setup.
Set up Google Analytics 4
- Create or open a Google Analytics account.
- Create a GA4 property for your website.
- Create a Web data stream and copy the Measurement ID, for example G-XXXXXXXXXX.
- For server-side events, open the GA4 data stream settings and create a Measurement Protocol API secret.
- In Sitewrap, open Settings -> Tracking -> Google Analytics 4.
- Enable GA4, paste the Measurement ID, paste the API secret if you want server-side events, and set the consent default.
- Choose tracking levels: frontend, socket fallback, and server. Leave only the levels you actually need enabled.
- Choose event groups such as page views, CTA clicks, scroll depth, form submit, lead capture, video events, 404s, and performance timing.
- Set sample rate. Use 1 for all events or a lower value such as 0.25 for 25% sampling.
- Add excluded paths or user agents when you do not want analytics sent for specific traffic.
- Save settings and verify events in GA4 Realtime or DebugView.
Set up Mixpanel (MP)
- Go to mixpanel.com and create a Mixpanel account.
- Create an organization if Mixpanel asks for one.
- Create a project for the website you will track.
- Open Project Settings in Mixpanel and find the Project Token.
- Copy the Project Token. Do not use your personal password or unrelated API credentials.
- In Sitewrap, open Settings -> Tracking -> Mixpanel.
- Enable Mixpanel and paste the Project Token.
- Choose persistence: memory for the most privacy-conscious default, localStorage or cookie only when your consent setup allows persistent storage.
- Set consent default to denied unless your legal basis and consent banner support a different default.
- Enable People/profile updates only if you want identified lead or user profile data sent to Mixpanel and you have the right notice/consent.
- Choose tracking levels, event groups, sample rate, debug mode, bot filtering, excluded paths, and excluded user agents.
- Save settings, then open your website and check Mixpanel Live View or Events to confirm data arrives.

- Changes are not visible: refresh the relevant page cache from the dashboard and confirm you published the right version.
- Analytics look incomplete: confirm consent settings, tracking preferences, and whether the page is being served through Sitewrap.
- Security events look unexpected: review the affected URL, country, device, and blocked request details, then contact support if you need help.
